  • 02-02-2012 | The Swedish Market: Burgundy wines show record exports

    Thanks to rapid growth in this market between 2004 and 2007 prior to the global economic downturn, when the number of bottles exported grew from one million to three million in three years, Sweden has entered the top 10 export markets for Burgundy.

  • 02-02-2012 | The Finnish Market

    Burgundy wines continue to be reserved for an exclusive few in Finland with fewer than 400,000 bottles exported on average per year between 2007 and 2010, with sales of between €1.5-2 million a year. Finland ranks 19th in terms of clients for Burgundy wines, accounting for 0.4% of export volumes.

  • 02-02-2012 | Burgundy Wines in the Danish Marketplace: a gradual uptake in sales

    Denmark is still the ninth biggest market for Burgundy wines in terms of value, and it holds eighth place in terms of volume. In 2010, it accounted for 3.6% of export volume from the region and almost 3% of export sales.
    In terms of volume, Burgundy wines represent 1.2% of total Danish wine imports and almost 3.2% in terms of value.

    Burgundy has posted good results, particularly in comparison to other vineyards. The 2010/2011 campaign confirmed the return to a rise in sales of Burgundy wines, which began last year after the 2009 financial crisis. Despite the gloomy global backdrop, Burgundy has economic assets which allow it to defend itself and to continue conquering markets. The opportunities provided by developing markets also promise good future prospects.

    The first few months of the year were marked by clement temperatures and levels of rain that fell well below the norm. Even at this point, 2011 could already be characterised as a hot, dry year.

  • 24-10-2011 | The Grands Jours de Bourgogne Press Trophy 2012

    In 2012 for the first time, alongside the usual prize awarded for a written, radio or television report, the jury will award a trophy to honour the work of a photographer. Two prizes of a selection of Burgundy wines, each of a value of 2,50 euros, are up for grabs.

  • 21-11-2011 | 11th edition of the “Grands Jours de Bourgogne”

    Created in 1992, the “Grands Jours de Bourgogne” takes place every two years in March, bringing together journalists and the trade from all over the world, not in a large, impersonal room, but in the heart of the vineyard. For a whole week they are invited to cover Burgundy for wine-tasting sessions, from Chablis, to the Côte Chalonnaise (for practical reasons the Mâconnais wines will be exhibited in Beaune for a special day), via the Côte de Beaune and the Côte de Nuits.

    1,247 “Climats” – 2,000 years of history, universal recognition: the “Climats du Vignoble de Bourgogne” apply for World Heritage status as sites that are “the combined works of nature and man, (...) of outstanding universal value, from a historical, aesthetic, ethnological or anthropological point of view”.

  • 21-11-2011 | Sustainable Development in Burgundy: a structured, coherent approach

    “To be the worldwide benchmark in fine wines produced by sustainable winegrowing” is the objective of the “Bourgognes Amplitude 2015” plan, which sets out the broad guidelines for the Burgundy wine sector in the coming years. Sustainable winegrowing and, more broadly, Sustainable Development – both new societal challenges – are therefore at the heart of the Burgundy Wine Board’s (BIVB) strategy. A number of key projects are already underway.

    One of the main roles of the Burgundy Wine Board (BIVB) is to help winegrowers make decisions and provide them with technical advice. With the “Bourgognes Amplitude 2015” plan, it also hopes to produce 200 million very-high-quality bottles each year.

    The “Bourgognes Amplitude 2015” plan has set itself the principal task of consolidating Burgundy wines as a “global reference for great wines produced from sustainable wine-growing” by “moving all Burgundy wines towards the upper segments of the range”.

  • 07-10-2011 | The tastevinage App: The best of Burgundy on your iPhone !

    On September 30th last, more than 250 seasoned wine tasters gathered at the Château du Clos de Vougeot for the eighty-eight Tastevinage session, chaired by Michelin three-star chef, Georges Blanc of Vonnas. Of the 782 wines tasted, only 284 were selected. The chosen wines will bear the Tastevinage labels and seal.

  • 07-10-2011 | 23 newly accredited "Official Instructors for Burgundy Wines" !

    Following the success of the accreditation program launched in 2008, the Burgundy Wine Board (BIVB), along with the Burgundy Wine School (L’Ecole des Vins de Bourgogne) decided to repeat the experience in 2011. 25 persons were selected by the BIVB for their strong know-how and expertise in wine training to participate in this program and communicate the image and values of Bourgogne (Burgundy) wines back in their own country.
